The staff was nice and helpful. The tables were clean and maintained. The beer was good. The place was not busy during our visit.

First I’d like to start off that this is one of the more well-maintained pool halls that I’ve been in. The tables are clean, the bathrooms are clean, and the atmosphere is lovely. The only reason I’m leaving 3 stars instead of 5 is because the bartender chased us out asking for a tip!!! I’d understand if we didn’t tip at all except……we tipped a hefty amount in cash. He asked us if “the service was really that terrible”. And to be honest, it wasn’t great. We had to go back to the bar after 15 minutes to remind them about our drink order that they had forgotten about. I waited at the bar for the bartender to return from doing whatever for a minute or two—not sure why the bar was unmanned when there were multiple bartenders on the clock. This stuff matters when you’re paying per minute to play. Plus this is definitely one of the pricier pool halls I’ve been too, which is fine, but if you’re gonna charge upscale prices, maybe create an upscale experience where the bartender doesn’t yell at you from the door because he *thought* you didn’t tip. On top of that, I’ve never been expected to tip *on my table time* at any other pool hall. I usually tip JUST for drinks but we tipped on the entire bill for the night. If you’re gonna expect a tip just for delivering drinks to the table, maybe don’t deliver drinks to the table and operate like a bar? I didn’t even get an option to take my drink to the table myself instead of tipping someone to do it for me. I don’t live in this city anymore so I’m not used to the aggressive tipping and it definitely put a bad taste in my mouth. I hate to say it but I probably won’t come back here because a well maintained table really ain’t worth getting harassed for a tip. I’ll take a beat up table and a friendly staff over….whatever that was.

Great tables. Great staff. When I started playing at 946, I thought it was a little crowded, but actually, it’s not. It’s just that I was always there during really crowded times. The space is great. There are high top bar tables in between the pool tables that allow you to keep a drink and your stuff nearby, but they are far enough away from the play action that they don’t compromise the space. The food at 946 is fabulous. Pizzas are GREAT! They have a great selection of beer and wine. The staff is always friendly and accommodating and the place is always clean and inviting. If I had to note something negative, it would be that the music is sometimes too lounge-ish for my taste. I prefer higher energy music to sleepy music and this is a venue that doesn’t offer a “juke box” (meaning there’s no app and customers can’t pay to play music). That’s seriously the only thing that could be better. Everything else is REALLY GOOD!

Really cool place to play the pool but I didn’t like that I had to give them my credit card/document for hold. I think I know why they do it, but it doesn’t seem safe. I wasn’t feeling good about it. I hope they will came up with some better idea. I think it is also against the bank rules. We should keep the eyes on our cards and not give them to other people.

946 Billiards is an upscale establishment in San Jose, CA on the El Camino Real. They have several well maintained tables with good house cues available. They have a full bar, with lots of seating. There is also a good menu with quality food. The staff is very welcoming, and cordial. Most tables have liberal pockets, but there is one with 4.5" corner pockets, and one with 4.125" for tournament finals play. They even have snooker table. This is great place for technical, casual, or romantic players.

Expensive to play, but great staff and vibes. Nice to have a late night place to hang that is clean, not sleazy and has great music.

This place is super nice! Not uppity - not stuck up- perfectly pleasant. Well lit, AC, really cool decor. Bar in between all the tables. We got here at 2pm leaving at 4pm on a Sunday, the vibe is just awesome! Music on point. Perfect date day/night place. Pros playing here, just ah what can I say, I’ve never been to a pool hall like this! Follow me for my foodie adventures on Insta: @alexxnwogu
