About OFF THE RAILS BREWING CO. - steak house in Sunnyvale, California

Customer Review Summary

Off The Rails Brewing Co. offers a diverse selection of food and drinks in a spacious, vibrant atmosphere. Popular menu items include mushroom empanadas, chicken wings, and tacos, with large portions and tasty options like the Buffalo Chicken Wings and fried calamari, though the latter has been described as rubbery. Happy hour features good prices on drinks like Moscow Mules and Margaritas. Service is hit or miss; some diners experienced slow and poor service, with long waits for food and a lack of communication from staff. While the beer selection is decent, some found specific brews like the Hazy IPA to be overly sweet. The overall ambiance is enjoyable for casual outings, trivia nights, and families, despite some complaints about parking during peak hours and inconsistent attention from servers.

A couple pints and some finger foods ... all of it was pretty good. In particular, the mushroom empanadas were very tasty. The chicken wings were also good but they are basted in that thick, sticky, sweet sauce, so you gotta like that. Fried calamari was light and fluffy. Beers on tap of several varieties. Service was fast to start, but we ordered the calamari in the "second batch" and they took 20+ minutes. Not cool. But this has a real brew pub atmosphere and there are games on the tv's. Pretty cool hangout spot.

It was a pretty big location and in an excellent spot. The beer menu wasn't super large, but it did have a bunch of style options. I ordered their Hazy IPA and it was fine, kinda sweet for me though I think. I'd probably go back to try some food if in the area, but wouldn't make it a destination trip.

Here for trivia. We ordered starters: pretzel bites and onion rings. Do NOT order the pretzel bites, it comes with 6 tiny bites for $10. The onion rings were good

Great happy hour prices! Can't go wrong with a Moscow Mule or a Margarita from here. The drinks aren't overly sweet and they don't skimp on the alcohol either. Food portions are pretty big here! Like... impressively big - at least from looking at other orders of nachos and fries. I got the Buffalo Chicken Wings, which were pretty good! Not too heavy on the vinegar, but they were spicy! Very saucy as well.

Came by around 7:30PM on a Wednesday evening. Inside and outside seating, maybe half full (me being generous, could have very well been a third full). Two of us ordered: -lazy hazy $9 pints -brewers burgers $18 -fried chicken sandwich $17 We sat at the bar. Beer was a bit flat to me. Server was nonexistent. After 30 min or so, our server came by and apologized for the wait and food was on the way soon...another 30 min (an hour now). We realized food still wasn't here...I had to call for the server since she was non-existent...then I let her know that if the food wasn't coming within a few min, that we would just leave...she checked and sandwich was available, burger was an extra 5-7 min. Food was ok at best...wait was ridiculous and without communication is what really ruined the meal. A different person closed out my tab...and apologized for wait. I asked what the issue was and he mentioned it was short staff. If food was going to take an hour long, we would have went elsewhere. Staff should have communicated this out from the start. Person closing out the tab did take 25% off, but still not worth it at all. Parking is difficult during peak hours. Probably shouldn't have tipped...but whatever. Won't be coming back.

Happy hours are until 6pm weekdays. Platter contains garlic spicy fries, nachos and pretzel bite. Pitcher was enough to two rounds between 3 folks. Price is reasonable. There is plenty indoor and outdoor seating.

Off The Rails Brewing Co is a great place to grab some food for lunch, or head there after work to share a drink. The interior is huge, with a bar and tables downstairs, and more seating available upstairs. Unlike other bars and pubs, the lighting is brighter, rather than keeping it dimly lit. While I've only eaten off of their "social plate" menu (tacos, I've had all of their tacos), all of their food looks great. I've enjoyed all the flavors of their tacos (pictures of all 3 uploaded as well), and they're willing to accommodate my requests for extra cilantro, so they're getting an A+ for that. The "spicy chicken" is more of a flavor spice, than a heat spice. All in all a great place. I've seen a number of families here as well, since it's not a rowdy place, and they have seating that's away from the bar it works nicely.

We went in and it wasn’t very busy since it was a little early but not once did the waiter come and check on us or try and refill my drink. They also brought out my meal once everyone else had finished their meal. Definitely not good service and the calamari appetizer was rubbery.
