About Duke of Edinburgh - steak house in Sunnyvale, California

Traditional British pub, constructed entirely in the U.K. & shipped stateside, that also has patio.

Customer Review Summary

The Duke of Edinburgh has a nostalgic British pub atmosphere, which some may find charming while others see as off-putting. Food quality is inconsistent; the $24 "Bangers and Mash" was disappointing with cold mashed potatoes. Service experiences vary greatly, with some praising attentive bartenders and others reporting rude staff. Many find the prices too high for the quality of food and service offered. Positive highlights include a good wine selection and well-prepared meals like the prime rib and beef wellington. However, multiple reviews mention a declining standard of cleanliness and atmosphere, with some patrons vowing not to return.

The place really does smell like an older British pub, which may be off-putting to some, but authentic enough. Sadly, the authenticity doesn't extend as far as their $24 "Bangers and Mash" which arrived with cold mashed potatoes and a tiny plastic pot of gravy on the side. It's certainly nostalgic if you're craving 1980s British school dinners, but that's probably not what you're here for at these prices. Avoid.

This was a delightful little find just next door to my hotel last weekend—had 3 meals there in 3 days. Stephen and Michelle were my bartenders, and service was impeccable on every visit. Quaint British pub with a vibrant bar crowd, darts games, the occasional sports on the TV, and quiet conversation. A nice place to go to unwind. Great wine selection. Must try the veggie burger or the bacon-wrapped filet! Also, they just put up some festive fall decor 🎃

I ordered the prime rib dinner which was cooked perfectly. My hubby enjoyed the beef wellington

Well, this place hasn't changed over the past 25 years or so. Even the smell is still the same. And so was the food. I am OK with a need to maintain the good old things but this is maybe a bit too much of the good old things....

On our last visit, we had mediocre food, a waitress who didn't want to do her job, overcharges, and rude bar flies. The Duke is now just a shadow of it's former glory. I won't be back, there are plenty of dive bars closer to home.

We stopped by for a beer after work. Pretty mediocre for the price they're charging. $8 for fries, $35 beer pitchers is not what the atmosphere and service is justifying. Our server made us feel rushed, she gave us the check without us ever asking her. She just wanted us to leave even though there were many tables that were empty. On top of that a minimum default 18% tip for such an establishment is insane. I won't be returning.

Not sure which is worse: Snarling bar staff, stinking pub odour, cliche Julie Andrews music, flat beer, dirty tables or being abused by a drunken regular (at 19:20 on a Tuesday)? Either way - give this place a wide berth. Sorry there’s nothing nice to say about it except the sun was shining on the “beer garden” that overlooks a massive car park.

Excellent #beefwellington dinner. Had Harps & Guiness to wash it down with. Is within short distance from hotels and shopping for your convenience, and great story about the history of Edinburgh. Enjoy...cheers mate!
