Had the most enjoyable New Year's Eve dinner. The service staff was exceptional from the moment I made my reservation, thru the hosting station, to my server at my table. All a well-oiled machine at this restaurant. Wine list seemed to be way overpriced but a great selection indeed.

I went with my mom for dinner since it’s been a while since I’ve seen her and she wanted to treat me to a nice place. Totally forgot it was valentines— but we were lucky that a reservation was canceled and got a seat. 10/10 experience— The complimentary bread was fresh, soft, and absolutely delicious as was all the food and we got extras (the salmon taretare + a couple sweets) as well. We also got a dessert on the house (lucky!!) that just tied everything together to make an amazing night (my mom enjoyed this place so much she forced me to write a detailed review lol). Grilled Octopus : This was really great. The meat was very delicate and soft, which I did not expect from octopus I had before. So it really stood apart. It and had almost a smoked flavor to it, and was overall a delight. “Mero” Sea Bass: The sea bass was one of the best dish I had so far. It was buttery soft and seasoned perfectly. The fregola ready paired well with the fish and the prawns that came with it were very fresh and succulent. I’d recommend this the most, especially since it seems to be seasonal. Filet 8 oz: Since this is a steakhouse, there’s no way to go wrong with this dish. It’s a classic, solid filet mignon— very tender and the demi pairs nice with it. Soufflé: this was one of my favorite desserts. I believe this was pear flavored..? In any case— the flavor really shone through, that I remember. The cream and brown butter ice-cream was also really nice, very light and almost refreshing, could have eaten the whole thing myself. Toast with apples + caramel: No idea the name for this, but it was really good. Got it on the house, so it was a nice bonus. The toast was very crispy and caramelized, and the apples + ice-cream on top cut some of the heaviness from this dessert. The caramel sauce also paired very well with this— it was quite salty which I liked, and not too sweet at all!

It's been years since I've dined at Alexander's, mainly because there are so many other steakhouses in the Bay Area. Last night, we tried the Omakase, their prix fixe menu. While it wasn't primarily fish as you might expect from a Japanese restaurant, it was definitely inspired by Japanese influence. We paired our meal with cocktails and a great bottle of GSM. Everything was delicious, and we were so full that we had to box up our last entrée and even the cotton candy to take home. The service was fantastic! Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about both the wine and the food, and he added a wonderful presence to our evening. Unfortunately, I didn't catch his name, but we closed the restaurant with him still taking care of us! Parking is easy, with street and structure options nearby. It's a great location, surrounded by other restaurants and dessert spots as well.

I dined at Alexander's when it was in a different location and remembered it being really good. This time it's not as great as I remembered. Service from Victor was amazing though. The steaks, they were cooked perfectly but underseasoned. We ordered a few appetizers and we didn't care for the short rib or the Jamon iberico with buratta. It was really fun when you get Cotton candy at the end. They're very accommodating especially if you're celebrating something.

All good. But why 3 stars…The ribeye is decent but did not wow me in any way. All the food tasted good but nothing out of the ordinary. For the price point, I expected more than ordinary and not having melted ice-cream which my friend ended up drinking as a shake and me wondering if it ever came with the dessert. I’m definitely not impressed by the taste profile of any of the food items. Our server was very attentive, with her constantly keeping the table clean of food debris, but another server who brought the dessert literally made my jaw drop for the wrong reason. He simply pour the syrup onto/into the soufflé without checking with us. It made the dessert too sweet to be enjoyed. That was not a good move. He basically brought it to the table and went about carrying out his act without 1st checking with us. I believe he did that thinking it is a show and him providing service but I definitely did not enjoy it. Also, instead of doing that, he could and should at least check and not served melted ice cream to us. We did come during dinner time, and I am usually not very particular about the ambience of restaurant but it is particularly dimly lit at this place that I could barely see what I’m really eating. Any details could have been missed.
