We celebrated my spouse’s birthday here, and it was fantastic! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was top-notch. The steaks were cooked perfectly, juicy and flavorful, and the sides were just as delicious. They even surprised us with a special birthday dessert, which was a lovely touch. A memorable experience all around – we can’t wait to return!

Cowboy Star Restaurant is probably the best steakhouse I have ever been. The service and staff are top-notch! On top of that the food is very delicious. We ordered the Porterhouse steak for 2 with shrimp, brussel sprouts, and the Wedge salad. The portions were large and shareable. Our bill was a little steep but well worth the price. We will be back.

This is a must-go restaurant!! The ribeye I ordered was definitely the best I’ve had in San Diego. My date ordered their American Wagyu skirt steak and was blown away. Their service was quick and efficient. Server was knowledgeable and friendly. It was an amazing experience!

Perfect Review for Cowboy Star Restaurant Cowboy Star is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, blending rustic charm with an upscale feel. The service was impeccable, and our experience at the bar set the tone for an unforgettable evening. Garth, our bartender, was phenomenal. His recommendations were spot on, and you could tell he truly knows his craft. Every cocktail was perfectly balanced, and his knowledge of both the drink and dinner menus helped us make the best choices. The attention to detail and personalized service made us feel like VIPs. As for the food—simply outstanding. The happy hour sliders were cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor, and paired beautifully with Garth’s mixed old fashioned. Every bite was a testament to the quality and care that Cowboy Star puts into their dishes. If you’re looking for top-tier food, exceptional service, and an expertly crafted drink experience, look no further. Cowboy Star delivers on every level. Can’t wait to return!

We walked into Cowboy Star on a Sunday night without a reservation and were graciously accommodated with seats at a barstool seating area. This spot is popular, so definitely make a reservation if you can! The food, service, and ambiance were fantastic. We started with oysters, which were outstanding and so fun to share. I had a ribeye for dinner—it was enormous and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend Cowboy Star!

Cowboy Star restaurant A review of Happy Hour Food. (One item not on the HH menu, and we don't drink, so no drinks reviewed) We showed up just as they opened we were the second ones in the door so the food should have just been started. Our server was Arturo, with excellent service and a great friendly attitude he answered all questions my questions on the food and menu. 3 Sliders from left to right in the attached photo. The first is a Cornichon remoulade slider. The next is a cheese truffle slider. The last is a bacon jam slider. The seasonings on these burgers were spot on. They were all just slightly overdone which dried them out a bit. The Cornichon pickled mustard slider. It was ok, I think the word unremarkable is what comes to mind first. The Truffle slider, how do I say this? The truffle oil is foul and it makes the hamburger horrible as well. It was a poor choice of a topping. Do you want to guess how I feel about truffle oil? The bacon jam sider with caramelized onions was sweet and it was fairly good aside of being a tad overdone and dry. C-Star Fries with 3 sauces. Whole grain mustard in mayo, a spicy ketchup up, and a Bacon mayo. Sauces we all top-notch, fries were soggy. Which is odd as we were the first to order. You would think they would be crisp and fresh. They came out lukewarm. They were served in a basket inside a napkin which just kept the moisture trapped inside so they got soggier as they cooled. The sauces and the mustard mayo were a nice surprise and might have been the best of the three. The spicy ketchup was good, I enjoyed it quite a bit my spouse thought it was overdone with the heat. The bacon mayo was good but not as good as the others. Beef skewers came with slaw and three skewers. All the steak was well done, which made it slightly chewy and dry (I cut open every piece of steak and checked each for this review). The spices and sauce give it a very bold flavor and salty flavor. After eating 2 of the 3 skewers the flavor quickly becomes overpowering. I couldn't eat the third skewer at all. The slaw is great at first then, there is a strange aftertaste. Very deep edamame flavor to it, very earthy, it has to be whatever vinegar they use. Potato skins have great skin, it's crisp and salted well. On the inside, they have corn beef with a horseradish sauce. That is some sharp horseradish, it has a bite. The corned beef makes the inside of the potato kind of soggy meat in the middle of a good potato. It was quite disappointing. House-made sausage is sweet overly so for sausage. The sausage meat was moist (the best quality of meat all night). The sausage was sweet because it had chunks of pineapple in the sausage. The whole-grain mustard served with it just overpowers the sweetness of the sausage. It comes with Sauerkraut, which was good. Odd since I don't like Sauerkraut at all. The one item ordered not off the happy hour menu was the Roasted Beets… It was the BEST item of the whole meal. It was sweet, refreshing, and delightful on the taste buds. It had slices of apple that broke up the Beet flavor, added a sweetness that was stunning. It's also the only redeeming part of the meal.

I do a lot of research and read reviews before I select restaurants most of the time. I’m sure that contributes to my great experiences. It was our first wedding anniversary dinner and from the moment we stepped in the door they started catering to us. Ambiance is High End restaurant. I appreciated that we the tables were not on top of each other. The food was excellent, they gave us samples of the house made gelato. The bathrooms were spotless - that is critical for me to be comfortable eating there. I am excited to go back to this place! Everything was amazing and high quality. I definitely recommend.

We were in San Diego for business and wanted a night for ourselves. I researched the best restaurants and Cowboy Star continually showed at the top. I booked our reservation, You must have a reservation, and from entry we were impressed with the atmosphere. Laid back welcoming yet a chic formal feeling as well. From the drinks to our meal our service was impeccable, Joshua exceeded our expectations. The food was amazing and everything tasted perfect. If you don't visit Cowboy Star you are going to miss a true treat located in the hidden part of San Diego off of the Gas Lamp. You will not be disappointed!!!
