About Bag O' Crab - steak house in Salinas, California
Customer Review Summary
Bag O' Crab offers a diverse menu with notable seafood and a unique robot serving experience. Many diners enjoyed the lobster roll and shrimp boil, though some found the seasoning overly salty or lacking in flavor. Portion sizes are generally good, making them suitable for sharing, but some dishes, like fried fish and chicken tenders, were criticized for being dry or flavorless. Service experiences varied significantly; while some patrons appreciated the tech-forward service, others encountered long wait times and rude staff, leading to poor overall experiences. The restaurant's takeout options were generally well-received, though concerns were raised about single-use waste and the clarity of service expectations. Overall, while there are highlights, the mixed service experiences and inconsistency in food quality may affect repeat visits.

We door dashed so I can't rate the atmosphere accurately. The lobster roll was very good and a good size. The shrimp boil bag was yummy also. I may get a different seasoning next time because I was a bit salty for my liking and it was drowning in the sauce. I forgot to take a picture of the bag. I would like to see the difference of dinning in rather than takeout

Great tasting food with lots of variety. It is super messy, which is a good thing - it's expected. The menu is well structured and the options can be tailored to your liking. The pricing is market value, so watch the wallet. It can get busy during the normal rush hours - lunch and dinner times - so it's advised to plan ahead. The service is pretty cool with it's delivery of food with the latest tech - using a robot! Kids will enjoy that. Overall, we will be back and hungrier than ever!

Worst service and experience! We waited for our table for 25 minutes, we just received the text message our table was ready. We went to see the host and they took our name off the list. He did not want to sit us after only 8 minutes had passed. When the host added us to the list, he never mentioned we only had 5 minutes to get our table. This should be mentioned when adding people to the wait list. The host was very rude and unaccommodating. This was my first visit and I will never consider returning. Worst service and experience.

A friend and myself waited a week to visit this establishment, and it was worth it. The atmosphere, the service, the robot that brought us our meal, the seafood was cooked to perfection, simply worth every penny. I give it my highest recomendation to visiting Bag O' Crab in Salinas, CA

Portions were good, and sauces' flavors were not that impressive. Crab was dry with no flavor. Many shrimps still had poop vein in them. Shrimps and crab tasted like they were frozen. I expected more from a restaurant, not that far from the ocean.

Dined here for lunch on a Sunday. When we first arrived, it wasn’t too busy. We were seated right away and had our order taken within a reasonable time. My dad ordered a small bowl of clam chowder and a side of garlic bread, my mom and I each ordered a basket of fried fish with garlic fries and for my daughter, we ordered the basket of chicken tenders with fries. Each of our meals (not including drinks) was about $11 each, which isn’t too bad. Once our order was placed and we received our drinks, it was a bit of a waiting game. Their robot server (interesting but not necessary, since the waitress still came over and handed us our food off the tray) first brought out my dad’s clam chowder, about 10 minutes later came the 3pc garlic bread/Texas toast. Then another 10-15 minutes after that came the rest of our order. Would have been nice if everything came out all at once. Their fried basket options have pretty big portions that could easily be enough to share (especially young kids), depending on everyone’s appetite. The garlic fries were probably the best part of the meal for me. The fried fish had a good crunch but because they're thinly filleted, they were a bit dry. Had to liven them with a good squeeze of lemon juice and tarter sauce. I also tried some of my daughter’s chicken tenders. I prefer crunchy breading in which these seemed to be more of a flour batter. I found the flavor on them to be lacking as well. Overall, I found what we ordered to be a bit lackluster. Their seafood bags I would hope are better as that is probably what they are more known for. I also have to wonder how much single use waste this restaurant generates. Before ordering, the waitress brought over a small stack of paper trays, plastic bibs, packets of plastic gloves, hand wipe towelettes, plastic utensils, a small plastic condiment cup with a dash of mixed salt and pepper and a tied plastic bag with lemon wedges. Our drinks (a water and 2 iced teas) came in plastic cups, we ordered an apple juice which was in a plastic bottle. The chowder came in a to-go soup bowl with lid, the bread came on a paper tray. The only reusable thing we saw was the metal fry trays lined with a sheet of paper that our fried food was on. I'm sure its easier for them to just pickup up the paper table cover with everything on it to toss away when faced with the aftermath of a table eating a seafood bag but if we didn’t use this stuff, do they just guess and put it back in their supply (not very sanitary) or just throw it away too?

Really bad services. I went there alone, after I sat on the table with the menu, there is no one go and check me if I was ready to order. I raised my hand up to get attention for 3 more minutes, Finally I got one staff came to me. Then I waited for more than 30mins, the robot served me food. After I finished my lunch, I couldn't find anyone to help me check out by standing there for another 5 mins. Finally I went to the front desk for checking out, and the cleaning staff like a flash - they took out my food that I wanted to pack up so quickly. I realized that and stop that person cleaning up for saving my foods. Then I packed food by myself. I had to go to the front desk again with my oily hands since no one brought my bill to me. Did thery really deserve tips? I did a lot by myself and there is no sign showed this restaurant is self service. Such a sucked service. I would never come again. If they need more service staff they should hire more. By the way, it's not a busy time.

Shrimp is delicious. I love the garlic flavor, the medium heat just has enough bite to it. Their potatoes are delicious and so is the corn. When you order anything in the bag it arrives to your table pretty fast. Any appetizers, soup , garlic bread or anything else not in a bag will take quite some time so be patient...lol. Staff is young but friendly and fast. Your order arrives on a little robot and the waitress will hand you your order from the Robot. They definitely have improved from when they first opened up and I have gone several times since then. Make sure you ask what for the the Market Price for crab legs, crawfish, lobster tail, because it can get a bit pricey. Seafood is fresh tasting and it's nice they offer white rice! Enjoy
