About Mastro's Steakhouse - steak house in Scottsdale, Arizona

High-end chophouse serving steaks, sushi, craft beers & cocktails in chic, contemporary surrounds.

Customer Review Summary

Mastro's Steakhouse offers exceptional steaks and impeccable service, creating a high-end dining experience. Many dishes, like the petite filet and flourless chocolate cake, receive praise for their flavor. However, some appetizers were criticized for being excessively salty and lacking flavor, and service issues were noted during busy times. While the ambiance and attentiveness of the staff are generally appreciated, crowded seating arrangements disappointed some guests. Positive experiences highlighted special occasions and celebratory touches, such as personalized menus and delightful live music, which enhanced the dining atmosphere. Service inconsistencies and rude staff behaviors led to negative impressions for a few patrons, impacting their overall enjoyment. Overall, opinions vary; while many diners rave about the food and experience, some express dissatisfaction, particularly regarding service and food quality.

There is only one Mastros. Their steaks can't be beat. Service is impeccable. The petite filet was so flavorful (many filets are blah at other steak houses). The whipped potatoes were really good, as was the cream corn. That said, brocoli had waaaay too much garlic (I normally like garlic), and it tasted raw (not cooked), which made it even more potent. Flourless chocolate cake was delicious .

Mastro's was very busy on Christmas Eve but they still managed to put out a perfect meal! The 35 day dry aged Kansas City strip was outstanding!

My family and I dined at Mastro's yesterday for my parent's anniversary with great anticipation. Unfortunately, the food fell short of expectations. The starter bread and the much-acclaimed "sautéed shrimp" appetizer were excessively salty and lacked any flavor. The sautéed shrimp also came after our other appetizers as the kitchen had missed that part of our order. The "spicy mambo salad" should remove spicy from its name for its lack of spice, featuring only a tangy mustard-like dressing. For my main course, I chose the off-menu surf and turf, which featured a small lobster and an 8oz filet with a side of peppercorn sauce. Although the steak was cooked to the medium-rare temperature I requested, it was served slightly cold, in contrast to the sizzling entrées ordered by the rest of my family, so it appears mine had finished earlier than their food and was left on the side. Additionally, the peppercorn sauce also lacked any real flavor. But the biggest disappointment came this morning when I found the the lobster I had requested to be packed with my remaining filet was missing from the to-go box. While I appreciate the effort to pack the leftovers, I would have preferred to handle the packing myself if selections were to be made, rather than having items omitted. The only enjoyable food was their signature warm butter cake, gifted to us for my parent's anniversary. I will note, it is very large even for four people. Given the restaurant's reputation and pricing, I regret to say that I would not recommend Mastro's for its lackluster and bland food which they will not package completely for you.

As always, the dinner was great. Service was very good, and the table assistants (water boy, bread and bussers) were great. The only real issues I have are that when I go to an upscale restaurant like this, I am not bothered to spend $400 for dinner for two, but I expect a bit better experience and ambiance. The tables are so crowded in together that it feels almost like you are sitting with the people at the next tables. Also, when I reserve a table for two, I expect to be sitting across from my date, and not side-by-side or even around the corner of the table. Make the experience match the price please.

For a steakhouse, they have more seafood options than steak options; the appetizer menu was 97% seafood. Environment was moderately busy and people were not loud, which is nice. Server was attentitive, along with his honest feedback on dishes and suggestions. Steak was pretty good and the desserts were immaculate. I gotta order the filet next time instead of the bone-in; more meat to enjoy

Still on cloud nine after our amazing night at Mastro’s. From making the reservation to the end of the night they made our night even more special. We chose Mastro’s for our 20th Anniversary after hearing so many great things. We were seated right away at a high top we requested and were given menus to look over as well as our drink orders. Our menu’s even said Happy 20th Anniversary at the top. How cool is that? Soon another employee came and asked if we’d like bread at the table. We were pleased to see it was 4 assorted breads with a side of butter. The pretzel bread was phenomenal. The lighting is romantic, some may say too dark to read menus etc so may need some light from your phone, but I loved it. There was a gentleman singing live. He was amazing. It was the perfect sound level to enjoy talking with your party. We started with the shrimp cocktail as well as lobster bisque. Both were amazing. They offer cream and chives to be added at the table once the soup arrives. There was a great amount of lobster and so creamy. Everything was so delicious and I was afraid if I kept eating I wouldn’t be able to eat my actual dinner ha ha. We both chose steak, 8oz filet mignon and a bone in filet 12 oz I believe . For our shareable sides we chose garlic mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese and asparagus. When it all arrived at the table the employees were so quick to help clear our other items we’d finished to make room our dinner. They offered to plate the sides for us and oh my goodness, SO DELICIOUS! My wine paired well with it all. Just when I thought the night couldn’t get any better they surprised is with cheesecake and phenomenal whipped cream. Hands down some of the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. We left so full. Thank you so much for an amazing night. We can’t wait to come back.

We love coming here. The food is always top notch from the steaks to the sides and the desserts. They've just added some mocktails to their drink last which I enjoyed. I appreciate how accommodating they are. The night we went they had a guitarist playing.

Paulie(petite short girl) who is a host has to be one of the rudest person I have ever came across in this industry. She is not polite for a place who offers “fine dining”. I came in Christmas Day with 2 friends. As soon as we came in we were not greeted with smiles but blank stares. As we are being seated she DEMANDS me, does not ASK me, to take off my hat. Why tell me as you are sitting me? why not advise me at the lobby before walking into the dining room? Instead Paulie wanted to do it in front of everyone then give me attitude with it. Anyways I asked her why, instead of simply replying to me “it’s against dress code” she quickly escalates the situation by saying to me rudely “do you want me to get a manager” I answered yes. After being seated it took about 20 min just to get menus. Shortly after Mike the manager comes in says “you can not wear hats in MY dining room”. My hat is already off and has been off and I didn’t realize this establishment is called “mikes steakhouse” but okay. He then talks to me like I never been to steakhouse before which I felt he was stereotyping. Anyways for the inconvenience he gifted us free appetizers and a round of drinks which is highly appreciated but come on Mike. Get off your high horse and talk to your guest like humans. I understand Mike came in to defend his colleague but before you do that at least see both sides don’t jump to conclusion. Anyways this is why steak 44 will always be #1. Thank you to our server Austin for picking up there slack. He was super cool.
