The best!! I’m so glad that I got to hear about this place because let me tell you, we had to come back the next day for more and more. It was that delicious! The miso butterfish or salmon were to die for, it just melted in your mouth. Same as the ribeye steak, it was so so tender. We also got the garlic ahi tuna steak and mochiko chicken which were honestly so good too. I honestly don’t think there’s anything on the menu that would taste bad. Prices are good and perfect portions. I also really like the vibe in the restaurant, there was a section for their merch and a section for vintage items that was for sale. I will remember this restaurant for a long time before I get to come back to Oahu. Will definitely try other stuff next time!!

5-star everything. Delicious food, generous portion & fair price for Hawaii standard and really kind people behind the counters. True aloha welcome. The miso butterfish was really buttery, delicious and soft melts in your mouth kind. You would line up to order & pay, you can either dine in or take-away. There is a shaved-ice spot right next to it/different counter but same owner — im excited to try this next time. Will be coming back soon!!

Great local spot for unique variety of loco mocos as well as many other options including salmon, butterfish, pork, chicken katsu, etc. We ordered mini loco (enough for one person) and sweet potato fries with honey drizzle. The gravy is made with sauteed onions and mushrooms which gives the gravy a nice, rich flavor. The party is homemade and is much bigger than your typical beef patty. This is a great combo to order. Tried their curry loco Moco. Hesitant at first but it was just as delicious and recommended to try. Parking is tough to find so will have to find street parking around the local neighborhood. Their is street parking out front or can try around the corner in the neighborhood.

I had the garlic Cajun shrimp and it was great. The extra garlic butter was nice. My husband had the steak and he liked it. The rice was good but could have done without the pasta salad. Maybe an actual vegetable would be nice. We would probably go back. Good value for your money.

Ordered takeout for a family dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the menu options and food quality. Top picks include the Salmon Katsu with wakame rice, butterfish, and Korean beef. Fried chicken had a little too much sauce and was a bit sweet for my taste. Portions were decent, and they started using plastic takeout boxes instead of those paper ones they used to have, which made you lose a good amount of rice and sauce from each plate. We enjoyed the food and will be back.

I don’t what everyone else is getting here to justify that rating but they didn’t get the teriyaki chicken, my water had more flavor. I took 2 bites and threw it out, not worth the calories.

We had an enjoyable experience at Pioneer. My wife had the ribeye steak and it was cooked perfectly for her. I really enjoyed the Thai peanut dressing on her salad. The Mac salad was good and unique. My halibut was good but lacking a little flavor. Would go back.

Great value local joint featuring very tasty lunch plates. Right at the foot of Diamond Head, this not quite a hidden gem of a restaurant offers great flavors at a price point much better than what you’d find on the Waikiki strip. We ordered the Rib Eye and Mochiko Chicken plates. Both were good, but I would say the Mochiko Chicken was the winner. It was a very healthy serving size, and the breaded chicken was moist and tender. When we were there, it was mostly locals dining there, which is always a good litmus test. It’s a no frills resto where you order from a window outside and there’s a decent amount of seating on the inside if you want to dine there. The interior is rustic and eclectic looking. We were so happy to have found this place, because the majority of restos on the strip are overpriced and not really authentically Hawaiin.
