Hy’s Steak House offers a warm and welcoming fine dining experience, perfect for those seeking top tier service and an elegant atmosphere. From the moment you arrive, the convenience of valet parking sets the tone for a stress free evening. Ordered the sautéed mushroom which were rich and flavorful, complimenting main courses. For entree, I tried the Beef Wellington for the first time and it was amazing. Additionally, the Chicken Marsala was another standout. Hy’s steak house delivers an exceptional dining experience. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in a high end meal, this is a place worth visiting. Highly recommend!

Let’s start with the place itself, it’s cute old school steakhouse, beautiful and the live music was great! Mai Tai was great, old fashioned wasn’t up to our taste switched to champagne, but it’s really personal preference so no questions here. Cesar salad for two with a table presentation was amazing, delicious, it was just like it should be, but that’s it for a good food. We had a garlic steak wasn’t great at all, steak didn’t have a flavor and a fish piccata- was unflavored and plain, very disappointing with those prices. Also no one came to check if we like our entrees so we couldn’t complain or talk about it. Staff was very friendly but not enough attention to the guests. Do not recommend. Also everyone is talking how banana foster is great, I have had much better, and can’t recommend it either.

First timers at Hy’s. Celebrating an anniversary and we were looking for a place we could try a beef Wellington around here when we found Hy’s online. The cheese bread was tasty and warm. Drinks were great. Scallops were just okay though. The beef Wellington was delicious and so was the garlic steak. They were cooked how we asked and were moist and tender. Bananas foster flambé for dessert was so tasty and watching it get made is enjoyable. Overall great experience. Great service. Really nice atmosphere inside the restaurant. Glad to have tried this place and can’t wait to eat here again.

My husband searched for top steak houses in Honolulu and selected Hy's. We enjoyed our visit from the minute we arrived to the moment we left. Service by Jerrell and staff was top notch. Cheesy bread, lobster bisque, onion soup, clams in the half shell and steaks, all delish! Ended the evening with a apple streusel flambe by Neal. We could have licked the place clean with the caramel sauce. Ok one minor detail...they need to update the wine list. As many of the wines we requested were not available.

Enjoyed a birthday celebration here recently. The food was clean, fresh and perfectly prepared, with simple flavors that showcased the raw ingredients. The only blunder was the oysters had pieces of shells within the meat so we had to be careful while eating them, but other than that the food was excellent. Service however was on another level. Waters were constantly topped of. Attention was given at every corner, and the flow of courses was seamless. The atmosphere was classy, and lively. Live music was played through the speaker system, while laughter and conversation filled the room. On the more pricey end of the spectrum but really not that much more than you would spend at someplace similar. I’d say the difference is worth the splurge if you are spending a special night out. They even take your photo with a digital camera and bring you the print! Super cute and appreciated. They have complimentary valet (just remember to tip). I would recommend and I would go again. :)

Nothing less then perfection, highly recommended. From the beginning to the end. The hostess was very welcoming and ever server gave us the best service. We started with perfectly toasted cheesy bread and the smoothest old fashioned I have ever had. Then on to the best Crab Cake I've ever had and I've had crab cakes in San Francisco. It was light and made me think of dumplings. Plenty of crab and a nice sauce pulling it all together. For the entree we had a perfectly cooked porter house steak cut table side with a custom loaded baked potatoe dressed table side, perfectly cooked vegetables, and you have to try the crab macaroni and cheese the cheese sauce was delightful. It paired nicely with the wine. For desert we had the chocolate lovers with the smooth chocolate melted table side ever bite kept me wanting another bite. A perfect meal and a sovegner photo to top it off. The best Steak House I have ever been to. Highly recommended.

Very disappointed! I walked into a steakhouse with fancy front, however leaving with discontents. I had half dozen oyster of which quality was inconsistent. One was extremely skinny I had to ask to return, they gave me another that was too dehydrated. Then it’s the steak… New York Strip - steak was over seasoned with peppercorn and pepper making the steak overly spicy. Fries… McDonald’s fries done in old oil… Steak Oscar - king crab was ok, steak was fine. Problem is the asparagus.. man the stems was pretty dry and bitter. For a $100 dish I expected better quality. On a separately note… we were sat next to a big group … they had loud disturbing kids and parents didn’t even try to control them. We complained to our host waiter… he did nothing about it. Later another waiter returned and offered us change of seats… without approaching to the big group and addressing the loud lines problem to them prior. I mean… all in all… below standard fine steak house.

Me and my hubby have wanted to go check out Hy's for a while now and we were so excited when we were able to do a walk-in without a reservation on Thanksgiving. It quickly went downhill when they sat us in the bar area at these tiny little low top tables (we joked that we were sat at the “kids table” for Thanksgiving). My husband is 6’2” so he had to stretch his legs out straight to fit at the table. Despite being told we had 3 servers who would be helping us, we waited for a long time in between check-ins and our water glasses went empty. It took almost 20 minutes to get our bill and this was only after we flagged down a hostess to ask for it. The food was the biggest let down. I will preface this by saying that I used to live in Waikīkī when I was in college and my friend lived nearby. Every time I went to his house I walked past Hy’s and thought it smelled amazing but I didn’t have the money to afford it back then. So this first (and probably only) visit was 25 years in the making so the build up was high. The food: The free cheesy garlic toast was not toasted. The bread was just white bread that had the top torched quickly so it was cold, greasy and wet (the butter was just soaked into the bread). We ordered the large prime rib, medium rare. It was pretty much raw in the middle. The crust was WAY too salty (and I am a salt-a-hololic) and there were giant pockets of fat instead of a nicer even marbling. The veggies it came with were under seasoned, undercooked zucchini. The starch choice we picked was the truffle fries and they were burnt to the point that many were just empty skins that had the potatoes cooked out of it. To add insult to injury, we were charged $5 extra for the truffle fries and the portion was tiny. $95 total for a mediocre plate of food is unacceptable. The worst thing we ordered (possibly out of all year) was the truffle carbonara. The shitaake mushrooms were completely BURNED to smithereens. They were black and charred like chitlins from the bottom of the fryer. The truffles were wet like they came out of a can. There was no bacon as described on the menu. And they added these crumbs to the top that tasted like crushed cheez-it’s. The sauce was dry and flavorless. I took a few bites and tried to pretend it was ok but I was wondering why and how a pasta dish that’s almost $40 could be inedible. I tried a few shitaakes thinking maybe it was just the first 1-2 that were burnt but it was all of them. The same fry cook was probably overwhelmed that night bc they burned the fries too. I had to send the pasta back. Do you know how embarrassing it is to do that at a high-end place?! The server asked if I wanted something else but at that point nothing they served so far was good so I said no. At least they didn’t charge us for the pasta. I’d previously considered Hy’s for a special occasion kind of meal (anniversary/ birthday) but I’m glad Honolulu has many other great options. It was comical and offensive how terrible Thanksgiving dinner was to the point where I thought maybe there was a hidden camera or someone in the kitchen mistook us for their mortal enemy. As we left, the person at the front asked us how everything was and we said, “the wine was good”. Meaning, the food and experience was terrible.
