However, some reviews mention disappointment with underwhelming dishes, lack of creativity, and execution issues. While appetizers like poke and cocktails received high marks, certain tasting menu offerings were criticized for added costs and limited options. Not necessary to say. Hoku is always good 👍 We love its special course dinner for all special occasions. Christmas. New year. Valentine’s Day and more. The service is wonderful for sure. Priceless 👍

We liked the vibe but were unfortunately disappointed by the underwhelming dishes and cocktails. Creativity was lacking. Even worse, some basic execution just wasn't there, like the balance of flavors: kanpachi was overly sour but otherwise bland, while scallop and brisket were too salty. The mango sorbet was basically supermarket quality "plated" in a room-temperature bowl with no deco or twist whatsoever. Service was a bit chaotic: we had three or four waiters and were asked about orders multiple times, given the wrong silverware, etc.

The poke appetizer was my favorite dish. And the mezcal palomas we ordered were delicious. Ocean views.

Had the tasting menu and it was delicious. Great service as well!

The restaurant is beautiful. The view is amazing & the staff was great. We went for Sunday brunch and valet was complimentary. All of the food was great quality. Prime rib, tempura, pork were all hot & cut to order. Our server was super friendly & helpful. I consumed more shellfish than is probably healthy but I'm on vacation! I can't recommend this place enough. Everything was great!

The experience we had here was so great. Lisa made our special dinner much better, and we enjoyed our final night in Hawaii islands. That’s right decision! All dishes we had were awesome, no exceptions. All parts of foods they use to dishes were fully selected, so we enjoyed even a part left on each plate. One sad thing was, they gave us cute macarons for our celebration of our marriage, and we were supposed to have them later in our room by keeping them in the fridge. Guess what? We left them in the fridge and went back home 😭 That’s why we have to come back here again!! 😆 Thanks for making our special night much brighter!

Wonderful food & great service with a beautiful ambiance! Would highly recommend to anyone looking to treat themselves to some fine dining. My wife was surprised that they didn't boast at least 2 Michelin stars!

I expected better. My parents had stayed here 10 years ago to celebrate their anniversary and my Dad really wanted to come back for a special dinner with the family. The online menu seemed to have a lot more options than what we actually had on our menu, and the tasting menu seems a bit like a farse if 4 out of the 8 options have an extra cost (ranging from $45 extra for the second appetizer to $100 extra for the truffle pasta main course). We wanted to go a la carte and the chef made some exceptions (!) so that we could have a dish from the tasting menu. So, why not just have everything on the full a la carte menu, and then offer the big tasting menu? Anyway, our waitress was very nice and when they were out of one the 2 desserts (yes, only 2), she offered some options from their other restaurant. Also, we asked for plain still water, but they did that thing that really irks me at nice restaurants, and charged us for "volcanic still water". Come on! We said still, as in tap water, like every other place serves. We are foodies (we live in San Francisco) and enjoy trying new and nice places, but I'd suggest skipping this one. It's not worth the drive out to Kahala, and there was nothing on the menu that would make me want to come back. While the service was good, and the ambiance is nice, the place was mostly empty.
