About Gen Korean BBQ House - steak house in Honolulu, Hawaii

Local chain offering Korean BBQ grilled tableside & ban-chan in a trendy, modern setting.

Customer Review Summary

Gen Korean BBQ House offers a diverse selection of tasty meats, with standout recommendations for the marinaded beef belly and Gen Signature Yangyum Galbi. The service is generally positive, though there are complaints about long wait times for seating and second orders, especially during busy nights. Some guests had excellent experiences with attentive servers, while others encountered rude hosts and slow service. While the food quality is praised, the restaurant faced criticism for inconsistent service, especially regarding refills and timing. Visitors are encouraged to opt for premium menu items to enhance their meal and to prepare for potential waits on weekends. Overall, many customers enjoyed their dining experience, but it’s clear that service can vary significantly.

Really good meats and lots of options. Did have to wait a while for seating even at 8 pm. Would definitely go again as food was great. Service was good but as they were trying to clean up with people leaving we got waited on less

The best Korean BBQ I've had so far. *Be prepared to eat!* I recommend the marinaded beef belly. The service and food is top notch. Just get the premium, don't be cheap. You're here to eat so spend some money and eat all you can. If you go away hungry or unsatisfied it is your own fault. On weekends there is a line so prepared to wait.

Our server, Blainey, was awesome :) Visited on a less busy day for dinner. Tuesday, Oct 15th, 2024. Dinner was 3pm to close and $32.95 per person. +$20 for premium (which we did not do). Great quality food, wasn't difficult ordering more. My opinion on what the table ordered Appetizer/33. Calamari Rings - it's pretty darn good! I'd order it again on future visits. But we placed a second order and it did not arrive fresh and was nowhere near as good as the first order. Appetizer/40. Cheese Tonkatsu - tastes fine but don't think the cheese has a huge impact. Not bad, but not sure if I'd order it again (although the table placed another order, haha) Appetizer/41. Hotteok - good dessert, would order again 1. Steak - it's not bad, but not my top choice 4. Spicy Bork Bulgogi - not the best I've had, but it hits the spot 6. Premium Chadol - good cut, pairs well with the bbq sauce. My preferred starter cus it cooks fast 9. Beef Bulgogi - it's aight. Wouldn't order again personally 12. Gen Signature Yangyum Galbi - must have, so good 14. Samgyubsal - good cut, not too much fat, paired well with the sesame oil and BBQ 20. Woo Beasal - Similar to the brisket. Small portion, I would just choose the brisket. Maybe the marinated variants are more interesting. Paired well with the bbq, just like the brisket 29. Shrimp - it's shrimp, haha. Gen doesn't add or take away from the taste of shrimp. Tl;dr order the Galbi (many times). Finish off with Hotteok as dessert

The food was delicious and there is plenty of it! Although we came at a very busy night, the service was quick and friendly. Unfortunately, they don't serve wine at all. Great experience!

Literally food just got worse. Takes so long for a second order to come out just leaving you to sit and not eat anything. Picture is the brisket and it look like just shaved ice and was impossible to cook. I do not recommend this place if your a big eater cause they will waste your time and ruin your experience.

It was my 1st experience, and I loved it. We had the premium meats. Also fun to cook, great conversation and the kids enjoy it as well.

Our family of 15 had dined here on 11/25/2024 with Andrew as our server. We were seated in close proximity with 3 tables. Location was ideal. The selections were outstanding and service impeccable. All the dishes were fresh and tasty. Never needed to wait for Andrew at anytime, he was always present for our every need.He was always courteous and prompt with our orders. Parking and location was excellent and very accommodating. Prices were very reasonable to what we had. All was satisfied as we plan to do this again..

So the greeter/ host was a bit rude and not hospitable. Asked for a table for two, and he just pointed at a small sign by door (Which was not easy to see or find) that had a QR code that you have to scan to be on waiting list. Then he walked away. No greeting. No smile. Nothing. Almost like we were a nuisance. That's the vibe I caught. Then he sat us down (same guy), and said " you got two hours to eat." Then he walked stay. Lol Then the waiter came. Seemed nice. Took are order. Nothing out of the ordinary...yet. After we are our first round, we were ready to order our second. Seen our waiter. Trying to get his attention. But he was to busy standing and doing nothing. Talking to other waiters. About 10 minutes. Finally came over. Took our order. Overall, it was just OK. Service was a let down. It was 30+ dollars for dinner. It is all you can eat. If you get a nice hostess and waiter, then yes it's worth it. If you get the service I got, go somewhere else. Can't go wrong with food court at the mall there.
