Customer Review Summary

Empire Steak House Hawaii receives mixed reviews from patrons. Many diners appreciate the stunning views and romantic atmosphere, especially during special occasions like Valentine’s Day and birthdays. The food generally garners praise, with highlights including the octopus, beef short ribs, and Japanese Wagyu, though there are notable criticisms, particularly regarding the mac and cheese and inconsistencies in steak preparation. Service seems to be a frequent point of contention, with numerous reviews indicating that the staff is often overwhelmed, leading to long wait times and mistakes in orders. While some guests report friendly and attentive service, others express disappointment with the lack of staff support. My husband and I dined here for a nice date night dinner. They sat us near the window that gave us a beautiful view of the city. We ordered the following: Octopus ,Calamari, American tomahawk steak, Steak fries, Mac and cheese ,Garlic rice Food: 4/5 I thought that everything was well seasoned and prepared. I enjoyed the octopus as it was nice and tender and was well complimented with spinach, olives and fried garlic and topped with a nice balsamic glaze. The calamari was well seasoned and came with a nice and spiced marinara sauce. The tomahawk was good, but could have honestly come with less butter. I wasn’t too much of a fan of the fact that they had to tip the plate to keep the butter and fat oils being pooled on the bottom of the steak. However, the steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Steak fries and garlic rice were also well cooked. Unfortunately the mac and cheese was a huge flop. The macaroni was too over cooked and I hated that they cheaped out on the cheese and topped the dish with a literal slice of American plastic square cheese. Not fancy, and really ruined the dish for me. Service: Was okay, our server Yuri was good but seemed to be a bit overwhelmed. I think the restaurant is still in an adjustment period when it comes to having enough staff. Our poor server was running around so much trying to help all of her tables, but really could have benefitted had there been more staff working. This led to slower serving times for putting our order in, getting water refills, the bill, etc. They also seem to have an issue with their HVAC system because the ceiling was leaking condensation and dropping water on my shoulder. It was so bad that we ended up requesting to change tables, and even after we changed tables, we could see the water pooling on the floor. (they only moved us over one table over). I was quiet disappointed with this part of our experience and was not even offered any type of apology or compensation. Probably won’t be back.

My other half and I came here for Valentine’s Day dinner. The food was incredible. The service was friendly and managed the Valentine’s Day rush very well. I recommend having a relaxed mindset and enjoy the pianist playing. We will be coming back!

We had a wonderful experience. We asked for a table by the window. Our kids are well behaved so we like to treat them to nice restaurants with us. The servers didn't bat an eye that we had our kids with, usually you see a little bit of a look. The tomato bisque soup was incredible, the kids would come back just for that. I had the beef short rib, wow was all I said once it arrived. My husband had the octopus and he was not disappointed. The wine list is on point as well. Next time I'll do one of the Kobe steaks to share. Thank you for the lovely evening for our family.

The views from this restaurant are insane!!! I celebrated my birthday here on Friday night, and I had no idea that we would have front row seats to the fireworks display. Apparently, the hotel next-door has fireworks every Friday night. Closest I’ve ever been to a firework show and it was awesome! There was also a very talented piano player in the dining room. Their wine selection is on point. They had all of my favorites, which made it hard to choose. The food and the service were also excellent. I had to try the Japanese Wagyu and it did not disappoint. Definitely the best piece of meat I’ve ever had. Absolute melt in your mouth goodness! Thank you to the staff at Empire steakhouse for an unforgettable birthday!!!

I’m sure these 5 stars have to be fake. Went to this restaurant last night. Horrible service, they don’t know how to cook. My husband and I should have known it was going to be a problem when they had some weird looking steak sauce on the table. The places where we eat don’t have steak sauce on the tables because it’s usually unnecessary. You have to ask them to bring it from the back. Had huge bottles of wine in the front that they wouldn’t sell by the glass NOR by the bottle. Swerve took our order (2 salads, 2 entrees). He never asked my husband how he wanted his steak but read the order back as, “medium rare”. My husband corrected him and said medium. 3 minutes later he came back to confirm the order again. 5 minutes later, he drops off appetizers that were not ours but the table behind us. …you JUST confirmed our order! The table in front of us must have been having issues as well because they couldn’t even believe what was going on. About 45 minutes into the service, we’re told the kitchen messed up our food and it needs to be started again…..huh?? You took our order twice, it wasn’t a large order, what’s the problem?! We’re offered some calamari as a comp 🙄 When our food comes out, the steak is rare. It’s sent back. It comes back….Rare. The “Branzino” I ordered seemed more like a piece of seared flounder. This place is too overpriced to be making as many mistakes as they do. We were extremely disappointed as we were really looking forward to having a nice birthday dinner.

Food and service wasn’t worth the price. Atmosphere was nice but loud. View was nice. Room temp was a bit warm at times. Piano player was great. Table for 2 felt a little narrow and small. Items kept having to be moved around due to not enough room on the table. FOOD: 2/5 We ordered the Emperor Steak for 2 which was a Porterhouse. House bread, Calamari appetizer, mash potato and sautéed spinach. Dessert was apple crumble with chocolate ice cream. Calamari was standard to any steakhouse, the sauce was tomatoey. Mash potatoes and spinach was fine. Emperor steak was cooked well but the filet end really tasted like prime rib to me, which was not the taste or texture I was hoping for. Overall for $215 I would prefer Ruth Chris or Signature steakhouse. Dessert was ok but mostly just enjoyed the chocolate ice cream. SERVICE: 1/5 Our server was a kind gentlemen but he was serving too many tables. We had to keep waving him down to remind him about our order or drinks. Whenever he did come to our table it was either to give us an order that he forgot to put in earlier. Wife ordered a drink from the bar and it wasn’t ordered until his third time back when we were almost done with dinner. He came to take our bread, I said I wasn’t done with it. He asked if we wanted more. I said “Yes”. He still took the bread and never came back with more. Which was disappointing because I love having bread with my steak. During our service our server came about 4 times. The waitress refilling our water came 7 times. So that says a lot. It got frustrating watching our server help all the other tables diligently but we were kind of left hanging. Nevertheless I don’t fault the server, I fault the restaurant for not staffing properly and not having other staff cover each other. ATMOSPHERE: 3/5 Nice modern restaurant with great views. The acoustics make it very easy to hear the other tables conversations. Which takes away from the romantic intimate dining feeling. Our table was up against the floor to ceiling window. So if you get nervous of heights you may get butterflies. As stated earlier the table was a bit small. So they keep coming around to take away or move around the plates. So it makes you feel a bit rushed to eat before they take the food away. In the end we gave our server a 24% tip because he was working hard even if our personal service wasn’t that good. Still tho, with a final price over $400. I won’t be coming back again.

Why don't you come here? Fantastic view (top floor, panoramic) of Waikiki, great food and excellent service. Happy hour from 3 - 6. This is honestly better than a dozen or so nearby places with much higher quality overall. If your looking for a great dinner, food service and a view to die for, this is it.
