Our first meal in Hawaii. Wife and I were pretty tired so we appreciated that we got a table and staff were super friendly. Wife had 50th state fried chicken and I had beef short ribs. Both entrees were fabulous. We made the mistake of getting poutine as an appetizer, it was great, but there was too much food to finish our meal. Great experience here, highly recommended!!!

I admit that it didn't start well as they placed us in a table by the entrance door while there were many empty tables in the main area, however our waiter did a good job to change the mood. The food was good, mainly the risotto in my plate. Also the crisp apple dessert is awesome. Overall, apart from our table placement, the rest was really good. Funny thing is that they tell every patron where it's the restroom when they are taking you to the table.

The manila clams came with bread. The clams were perfectly cooked however the sauce was on the saltier side and the bread was too salty. We got the paella, the shrimp, lobster tails and clams were cooked perfectly, nothing was dry. However as we go deeper into the skillet, the dish got more and more saltier. We ordered the 16oz steak that we thought will come with chimichurri sauce but instead we got a steak with some glaze on it that isn’t chimichurri. Steak was cooked how we like it, medium rare. Potatoes and veggies were great. The glaze however, again, too salty for our likings. The service was excellent, staff were very knowledgeable and friendly.

Our visit to the Eating House was our best meal in Honolulu by far. Every aspect of our dining experience was impeccable and memorable. We brought our two boys, 7 and 9, who were served a quesadilla and vegetable platter before we even ordered our meal. And the “kids” braised short rib entree was truly an adult-worthy dish that our 9-year-old son gobbled up happily. The rainbow roll was some of the best sushi we’ve have in a while and was presented beautifully. My wife’s appetizer trio was also thoughtfully presented and was a tasty, diverse selection showcasing the chef’s versatility and culinary inspiration. My ramen was the best I’ve ever had. The broth was hauntingly rich and well adorned with fresh ingredients. And my wife’s fresh catch dish was as flavorful and fresh a rendition on mahi-mahi as one could have hoped for. We almost went back a second time for thanksgiving but made up our minds too late and there were no slots available. Great job from start to finish!

I was a huge fan of Roy’s when it first opened. It has deteriorated significantly so I was excited to try a newish Roy Yamaguchi restaurant. Unfortunately, it was largely a spectacular failure. We ordered from their Prix Fixe menu. The appetizer was mostly great. It was one spring roll split in half that was very flavorful, a delicious rib with Hawaiian BBQ sauce and a super bland Bao seriously lacking sauce and with a significant excess of fat. The real problem came with dinner. I ordered the mahi mahi in Red Thai curry sauce. As you can probably see from the picture, the sauce was much less a curry and more of a thick, milky gravy that was awful. This was really disappointing, so much so that I wound up not eating it and helping my friend eat her Ramen (which had some odd ingredients but was delicious nonetheless). The fish had a lot of dark parts on it underneath, which wasn’t super unusual but at $52 a plate, the expectation is higher. The bartender was very disappointing. The lychee martini tasted like it came from some sort of mix that had bad and artificial lime juice in it. I moved on to an old fashioned that wasn’t even drinkable. They are meant to be dark and rich in color and flavor. The orange peel was pretty but the drink was watery and tasteless. We got our dessert to go since we were long out of patience. We opened the dessert back at the hotel and it was this awful looking gelatinous white thing. We tossed it. Sadly, we won’t be going back to this restaurant.

Good service. They gave our kids some snacks. The drinks were great, and the food was good. One of the good things here is that the food is from the island.

The food was good, the ambiance was nice (Tuesday night, singing live) and the service was excellent. It’s not the best restaurant you’ll ever go to, but it’s fairly decent and I would recommend it.

Everything we had was good but ribs were the next level. It's sweet and falls off the bone tender. The fish with Thai coconut sauce was good too and the paella was flavorful and fresh. Drinks were tasty and STRONG! The service was warming and very welcoming. Will be back!
