About Alakea Steak - steak house in Honolulu, Hawaii

Nothing-fancy corner deli offering an assortment of traditional eats.

Customer Review Summary

Alakea Steak is praised for its delicious and tender steak, particularly the breakfast and garlic steak plates. Many customers appreciate the affordability and generous portion sizes, with some stating it's better than more well-known steak places. However, there are mixed reviews; one customer was disappointed by the lunch plate's small portion and unappealing presentation, feeling it didn't match the price. The restaurant has a friendly, hardworking staff and is conveniently located, but offers limited seating as it operates as a walk-up counter. Overall, it is recommended for its value and quality, especially for breakfast and steak dishes.

I work next door so my boyfriend gets us the steak breakfast plate pretty often lol. Hard working people, only 2 seniors, sometimes just 1 person working. Their steak… is the best compared to other steak plates I’ve had from more known places. Not only is it a hole in the wall but also affordable and fair!

Disappointed to say the least. I ordered the steak lunch plate which is supposedly the best item on the menu. Little did I knew when I opened it, all it came with was boring lettuce, two scoops of rice and very little portion of steak, not even 8 ounce. This is a mini plate but in regular container box. It looked nothing like the picture on the menu. I get it if it was little less than $10, but I paid $12 for so little volume of steak. Not worth it and not coming back.

Discovered this AMAZING place about two years ago when I worked at the DCCA building and visit just about every week if not every other week. Love love love the garlic steak plate and I have gotten the spicy chicken poppers a couple times and have never, ever been disappointed. From the portions to the price, it’s perfect. now that I work off Ala Moana, I still make the trip to Alakea Steak, even if I have to walk because it is just that good to me. Definitely worth a try.

I had the good morning breakfast;steak and scrambled eggs. It was a good portion size plate that can hold you until lunchtime. The food was delicious though, the steak wasn't dry and the scrambled eggs was cooked right. I paid $5.50 for my food, so it's a reasonable price. Fountain drinks refill is $.50 and a variety of drinks to pick from, there is also a snack rack. Breakfast is from morning till 11am. $5 minimum purchase if using debit/credit. Check them out and support local!

This plate lunch spot has been here a long time. Conveniently located at the corner of Alakea and King Street. they offer a large selection of plate combinations in mini and small sizes. The prices are good and the breakfast seems like a really good deal. I had a combination with fried fish, spam, gyoza, and teriyaki chicken. It was okay as the chicken looked really plain and almost parboiled versus grilled. The gyoza and fish were freshly fried and good. I think I need to try the steak since most people talk about this and especially since it is part of their namesake. For now, just on what I ordered, I would probably look around for other options. Staff was super efficient and helpful, so that was definitely good.

There's nowhere nearby to sit down and eat other than the nearby business plazas, so be aware this place is just a walk-up counter. I highly recommend the Meat or Fish Jun plates, as well as anything served with fried saimin
