Customer Review Summary

Chart House offers stunning sea views and a pleasant atmosphere, making it ideal for special occasions. The staff is generally friendly and attentive, contributing positively to the dining experience. The menu features a variety of flavorful options at reasonable prices. However, some reviews highlight significant food quality issues, such as stale and poorly prepared dishes, including an unsatisfactory salad bar and inedible oysters. Certain dishes, like the lobster and filet, received negative feedback for taste and presentation. Service varies, with some guests reporting lackluster attentiveness and mixed-up orders, while others praised exceptional servers. Overall, while the ambiance and views are appreciated, the consistency and quality of the food have left many diners disappointed.

The restaurant boasts a stunning sea view that enhances the dining atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for a special occasion or a casual meal. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring we felt welcome and well taken care of throughout our visit. The menu offered a variety of delicious options, and everything we ordered was flavorful. Given the quality of the food, I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices, which made the experience feel even more worthwhile.

The view was incredible as well as atmosphere. The food was just ok. Starting with the salad bar, if this is going to be called farm fresh it should be fresh and fully stocked. 1/4 of the bowls empty and their famous Cesar salad was soggy and just not what it use to be…. SALAD BAR 2 out of 5 stars and I’m being very generous. Oysters in 1/2 shell we had to return they had a very strong smell and looked like they had been chopped up. Oysters 0 out of 5 Filet 9 oz - this should be a thick cut of meat but it wasn’t as you could clearly see in my pictures. Filet 3 out of 5 Lobster tail was stinky!! I did not order but I could smell it from across the table. I got to try it, a little chewy and very fishy. Lobster 3 out of 5 Coconut shrimp- the plating nothing nice about it and the taste was ok. Coconut shrimp 3 out of 5 We drove over an hour to restaurant with the anticipation that the food was going to be amazing but the fell very short. Freshness is everything and they really need to take some proud in what they are serving. It was not a cheap meal and have to say the experience was not what I was expecting……

Food was absolutely disgusting. Paid about $65 for the Surf and Turf, the steak as medium rare. Meat was bitter, bloody tasting, tough and the sewage-like and fishy smell was nauseating. I asked to get it cooked more, and they sent it back out and it looked shriveled. The meat inside was powdery, crumbling instead of being smooth, and the entire thing tasted and looked like cooked blood (see the inside of the steak in my picture). It was the worst steak I’ve ever had, and I felt nauseous from the taste and smell. Mashed potatoes were not the worst, just grainy and full of potato skins instead of buttery and creamy. Lobster was dried up and not fresh. Ordered the popular lava cake. Tasted like an undercooked egg chocolate muffin, with no chocolate oozing out, underwhelming. Even the Trader Joe’s lava cakes are infinitely better. Servers were very sweet, and the complimentary bread was the only enjoyable food. View is amazing, it is just so unfortunate that the food was so terrible.

The ambiance is amazing! We sat by the windows and had a beautiful view of the ocean and we got to see otters swimming in the water. Food and service were exceptional!

My wife's birthday we choose here, why the food and the location. 4pm arrival to enjoy watching the sun go down! Shimp, lobster and prime rib with cocktails was a perfect combination 😋

Ok what is wrong with this place? Is this Chart House? This place is not welcoming at all. From valet, the hostess at the front to our servers. We waited a while for someone to come and get our drink orders. Menus were not given. We had kids in our party too. No kids menus as well. We didn’t know who our waitress was and when we finally got one she looked unhappy that she had our party. Her vibe was so depressing. We had a birthday celebrant in our party and they gave her cake with no announcement. Even Sizzlers would sing and get us hyped. Food was okay but not the worth the price. Orders were mixed up but we didn't complain. This night was so disappointing and we will never come back. I thought the one in Dana Point was bad. Not even close. With the money we paid, we deserved better.

Clearly, the food was cooked in advance — Having dined at Chart House for over 20 years, I'm quite familiar with the menu, and if the food wasn’t good, I wouldn’t keep returning. However, on Christmas things were a little different — The salad was excellent but the coconut shrimp came out luke warm and we had to send it back. My main dish Sea Bass was luke warm as well. Typically, the lava cake is made to order, taking about 40 minutes, and is served hot enough to melt the ice cream. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case this time—the lava cake was cold, and the ice cream wasn’t melting. When we checked inside the cake, it was also cold, so we had to send it back. It took less than five minutes for them to bring us a hot one, suggesting the cakes had been prepared in advance, resulting in a texture that wasn’t fresh or moist. My aunt Vivian used to say, “If there’s no steam coming off that food, it’s not hot,” and unfortunately, there was no steam from anything I was served. The best part of the meal was (1) being there with my family, (2) the spectacular view (3) we didn’t have to cook or clean up afterwards (: (4) our MASTER SERVER Mike did an incredible job, great attitude — 5 STAR SERVER - WHITE-GLOVE SERVICE especially for the number of people that he had to serve. I never felt like we were neglected, but I was not impressed with the quality of the food — it was not the high standard that I have come to know over my 20 years of patronage to the Chart House. But i would still try it again for Christmas. I would just ask that you (1) PLEASE DO NOT COOK THE LAVA CAKE IN ADVANCE IT DOESN’T TASTE THE SAME and (2) IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU WOULD ADD A CHICKEN DISH TO MENU!

We requested a window seat for our anniversary and scored for sunset! Service was wonderful and attentive. Food was delicious and we ordered the lava cake for dessert but also gifted cheesecake for our anniversary. First time there but won't be our last. Also the drinks were well worth it! Beautiful and tasty!!!
