Customer Review Summary
Maverick Jack's San Mateo is praised for its high-quality, delicious burgers and friendly, professional service. The atmosphere is casual and family-friendly, with a clean and spacious setting. Many reviewers highlighted the crispy onion rings and fried pickles as standout menu items. However, some diners reported experiences of poor service and perceived favoritism, leading to feelings of discrimination. While the burgers generally receive positive feedback, concerns were raised about the sweetness of certain sauces overshadowing other flavors. Overall, the restaurant garners enthusiasm for its food and customer service but has faced criticism for inconsistent treatment of customers.

When you are craving a burger, you need to get a burger! And this is a place to go for a burger! No, they're not cheap. If you want a cheap burger, head to a fast food place. These burgers are high quality, and delicious. Well worth the price. Service was friendly, fast, and professional. Can't say enough about the fried pickles! Also, I love the casual and family friendly vibe. My only regret is that we were too full to enjoy milkshakes as dessert! This is probably my favorite burger place in this area. Will definitely be coming back!

Excellent burgers and onion rings. Very nice staff who provided great service. The atmosphere of this new location is much better than the old location across the street.

These guys really know how to make a burger. The shoestring fries are crispy and hot. The burger comes on a very delicious soft bun and was cooked to perfection. Fresh lettuce, tomato, and onion to really top it off nicely. I got the $15 lunch deal and was very happy.

This place is spacious inside with its own parking right in the front. It was clean, and the service was great without having to wait in line. The burgers were tender and juicy, but the sauce was on the sweeter side. So it covered the flavor of other ingredients. The bun was soft and fluffy which was the right size to grab on to without ingredients falling out on the side. The burgers were a bit smaller than what I'm used to, so I was still a bit hungry after I finished the fries, and I'm not an even big eater. The fries were okay and not much to it. They were thick cut but the outside wasn't cripsy and a bit hard on the inside. Overall, this place offers burgers that are better than many other restaurants but I would try to avoid the ones that are sweet.

I recently visited Maverick Jacks after seeing that it had just opened, and I was excited to try it out with my family. Unfortunately, the experience was far from welcoming. Upon arrival, we were completely ignored by the staff. At first, I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but what happened next was unacceptable. Shortly after we arrived, another couple (who were not Latino) walked in and were immediately greeted and seated. This blatant favoritism and disregard for my family left me feeling disrespected and unwelcome. As a Latino, I can only assume this was a case of discrimination. It’s disheartening to feel like our business wasn’t valued simply because of who we are. I would strongly advise other Latinos to avoid this place—it’s clear they don’t want us here. I had hoped to support a new local business, but this experience has left a sour taste in my mouth. I won’t be returning, and I encourage others to think twice before spending their money here.

I've been meaning to try the Burlingame location for a while now. Sometimes, we'd get catered lunch from there. I was surprised to see a grand opening sign when we were driving, low and behold it was Maverick Jack's location. It was super packed, and a lot of people were waiting outside. I took a chance and figured we'd try to place an order for to-go. I was greeted and helped right away by 2 ladies. One seemed to be in training. While I was waiting for my order, someone came up with my shakes. He politely asked me, "Do you want me to put it in the fridge while we wait for your order?" Amazing customer service. As I sit and wait for my order, I can't help but notice the retro lights and cute tile decoration. It gives it a warm and inviting kind of vibe. There seems to be more seating areas in the back as well. They were very fast in bussing tables, and I appreciated that they wiped down the menus once they were given back to them by customers. I feel like a lot of places have been more lax after covid. I ordered: 1. Outlaw burger - Bacon cheeseburger with bbq sauce, onion strings, and Chipotle mayo. Instead of the onion, strings this one had jalapeños which gave it a kick. The fries were fries 2. Onion rings - crispy and juicy when you bite into it. 3. Strawberry shake - creamy, but the straws were a little too thin to drink out of. Which made it really difficult to drink. I had to wait for the shake to melt a lot more. 4. Chocolate shake - delicious as well. Overall, I had a great experience. Great service, and the food was amazing even considering how busy it was. Can't wait to come back and try their other items.

I could not rate the food because we did not even get to order anything. On 3/8 my sister took me to this restaurant because she had been hearing great things about it . We got to this place around lunch time, the place was not full so what happened next was a little upsetting. There is a sign that states, "please be seated to be served.” So we sat down and waited about 5 minutes to be served. In this time the staff looked our way but ignored us. It was a little upsetting when a couple came in after us and were greeted and promptly served. We continued to be ignored so we decided to leave. I had high hopes for this place but I guess they have their chosen people who they want to serve and those they want to ignore.

One of the BEST burgers we have ever had. We always wanted to try this place and we finally had a chance to. We walked 45 minutes from our house, was seated right away by the sweetest hostess ever. I asked what she would recommend for the burgers and she showed me which burgers were savory, sweet, sweet-spicy, and if you want a lighter option, there’s the chicken sandwiches. We ordered the fried dill pickles for an appetizer and got the ultimate bacon + upgrade to onion rings, and the Whiskey Town + regular fries. The fried pickles were HUGE. They were so delicious. They were in a beer batter and super crunchy and fluffy and then you get the tangy pickle inside. We had leftovers to bring home. The BURGERS: The ultimate bacon was perfect, it had a very bacony taste, like maybe bacon fat was used to grill the patty or something. The American Buns were out of this world, soft, fluffy, and sweet bun. The lettuce and tomato worked so well to offset the bacon grease. The whiskey town was sweet from the caramelized onions, it had plenty of mushrooms inside. The bun was so so so goood!!! We love burgers and are always down to try burger spots. This place exceeded our expectations and we would love to come again to try a different burger!!
