Buttercup was one of the few places open on New Year's Day, and I had a very pleasant experience there. The waitress promptly seated us and took our orders with great attention to detail. Our food arrived quickly, piping hot, and delicious. We enjoyed chicken pot pie and chicken fettuccine, finishing our meal with cranberry pie and a milkshake. Overall, the food was expertly prepared and made with the finest ingredients. The tables were clean, and the atmosphere resembled that of a diner, with the added bonus of a bar and a television, which was a nice touch. I will definitely be back for more soon.

What a DELICIOUS spot in Oakland. You will not find better eggs Benedict or cinnamon roll pancakes. We loved all of the food, the vanilla latte, and the hot chocolate. Sandra was an incredible waitress as well.

Standard diner atmosphere. Chill and casual. The food isn't anything to brag about, but I will be back for the service. Trynu was amazing and had such good energy. She took care of us to a T . I will be returning whenever she is there. Service like hers has been hard to come by in the Bay Area lately and she can easily brighten up someone's day with her energy and attentiveness. I ordered the chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy. Unfortunately, my taste buds have been accustomed to living in Texas for almost 20 years so I'm used to food with a little more flavor. But, I will give this place another try.

Buttercup diner stands out for its excellent service. The staff is friendly, attentive, and makes you feel right at home. Unfortunately, the food doesn’t quite match up to the quality of the service. While the menu offers a range of classic diner dishes, the execution is somewhat lacking—everything from the flavors to the presentation feels just average. If you’re looking for a place with welcoming service, this is it, but if food quality is your priority, you might leave a bit underwhelmed.

I love how quickly and carefully they take your order and deliver your food. This is a place I like to go with my little kid, and my senior citizen mother. We are always on a short clock. The food is exactly what everyone wants. Fluffy, flavorful waffles, rich omelets and great coffee. The pies are legendary, and all the other sweet treats are delightful too!

Absolute trash. I Had heard nothing but great stories about buttercup, and it being a Bay Area staple I thought I had to try it. We ordered: - Chicken fried steak, eggs, potatoes. (Potatoes & steak were bland af. Entire potatoes were left on plate.) -Some type of omelette with hash-browns. (Hash browns were not crispy at all, and the whole omelette seemed to have been seasoned for someone at a hospital. It was bland af. Pretty much the whole thing was left on the plate.) Bananas foster French toast. (These were good, While hot.) The biscuits were especially horrible. Old. Dry. We left those pretty much the same way they were left on the table by the non friendly waitress we don’t really blame here thought. There is only like 2-3 waiters for the entire restaurant so yeah… just an awful experience on our end. Added photos of everything. Nothing was disgusting, but nothing was tasty either.

I want to thank the staff at Buttercup for always making me feel as I were part of the family. The owner and staff are always supper friendly and I've met very friendly and interesting people. I've yet to try a dish that I was disappointed with. I'm quite fond of their breakfast and I always treat myself to Mimosas which always goes well with meals. I tell all my friends about how this place was the first eatery I found when I first moved to Oakland. Again thank you for the hard work and going out of you way to make me have a pleasant experience.
