Stylish neighborhood bistro serving meaty mains & Californian sides, plus wine, in homey surrounds.

Customer Review Summary

Blind Butcher offers a variety of delicious dishes, with standout items like the beefsteak, lobster, mashed potatoes, and especially the lamb lollipops. The food is generally well-received, though some dishes like the butcher's potatoes were noted as under-salted. Service experiences vary; some guests found staff friendly but slow, especially at the bar, leading to considerable wait times for orders. The atmosphere is lively and charming, though the space can feel cramped, especially at the bar where patrons may be uncomfortably close to one another. Recent brunch experiences were disappointing, with issues like forgotten orders and slow service receiving criticism. Overall, while the dinner service is highly recommended, brunch may need improvements for a more consistent experience. Reservations are advised due to the restaurant's popularity.

Beefsteak tastes very nice! Love the mashed potatoes in short rib most. Lobster and cheese also taste good though a little greasy when we finished half of them. Smaller plate should be provided at least as an option.

There may be some debate whether or not this steak was medium rare, rare, or blue. But I ordered medium well so I could share with my wife. It was delicious but she didn't get to enjoy as much as she would have liked. The potatoes were perfect and her ravioli with, i think prosciutto, was delicious too. My personal favorite was the brussel sprouts. My wife typically likes one or two to sample my food or "for taste" but she ate a lot more than her usual one or two. The food here is great! Service. Service was something else. She tried to be friendly and A for effort. But we were sitting at the bar and it took a little long just to order. I mean, i understand you have 6 drink orders to make and each seemed to be 2 drinks each. But about 5min AFTER going through every item on the menu and placing the menu down to indicate to the bartender within arm's each that we were ready to order did she finally get to us. That and bluish rare when we ordered medium-well, sitting at the bar might not be the best option. What i gathered watching the actual servers at the tables, you might get better service at a table. Lastly, too many chairs at the bar. My wife and I were sitting so close we touching from knee to shoulder and i had to lean away from her just to use my other arm. And still i we getting slapped by the hair of the lady next to me and she and i were accidentally bumping elbows and utensils. I'd sat only slightly more room than economy class on a plane. The lady next to me was a good sport about it and i used to be in the military (no personal space) so it wasn't an issue. But i understand that may not be enough room to enjoy one's food for some. If so, don't sit at the bar.

Very cute yet small interior, also very dark but the lamps were nice. Pretty good food, highly recommend the lamb lollipops and truffle mac n cheese. The butcher’s potatoes were severely under salted, bringing the food score down. Service was nice and decently fast during busy hours.

I rarely give 5 stars, I think places that are exceptional serve them. This place was fantastic. The bronzino I had was cooked perfectly, crispy skin but moist on the outside. I ate all of it but the bones. If you are very hungry, get a side to go with it. My wife is a type 1 diabetic and they subbed out her carbohydrate laden side for brussel sprouts . The short ribs she had were tender and the sauce was balanced, I don't care for sweet sauces on meat, and this was NOT an issue here. She confirmed that she loved her meal. We got there just as they opened and they sat us at the bar. The music was not too loud, so we could converse easily, the staff friendly and helpful, reminded of pre-pandemic dining. It is fun watching them make drinks and the bartender answered some of my trivial questions without a hint of annoyance. The restaurant filled up by 6 PM on a Friday night, I would make sure you get reservations if eating later. Would come back again and again. PS if you are a tourist, it is one block from the Castro muni station. Cheaper and faster than most ride hailing services.

Blind Butcher was a delightful culinary adventure! From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with warm hospitality and attentive service that made us feel right at home. The menu was a tempting array of dishes, each more enticing than the last. We decided to start with the lamb lollipops, and oh my, what a decision that was! These succulent, perfectly seasoned bites were so incredibly delicious that we ended up ordering them three times throughout the evening. They were truly the highlight of our meal! The rest of our selections were equally impressive. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor, showcasing the chef's creativity and expertise. While the ambiance was a bit loud for my taste, it didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of our experience. If you're looking for a restaurant with exceptional service, mouthwatering food, and a lively atmosphere, Blind Butcher is definitely worth checking out. And don't forget to order the lamb popsicles – you won't regret it!

This place is very nice, when I get there it’s a little busy can barely move with the space they have. I’ve got the pork loin chop for my dinner and my plate is so sweet all I can taste is the sweetness. Eat 1/4 of my pallet and take it with me. I don’t enjoy it. Need to work on balancing the flavor of dish.

Now this restaurant stands out in comparison to must in the Castro. I did not had a reservation but luckily one was no show, other wise I don't think we could have gotten in. The vibes in there are like very fancy, dark, but like really dark, it felt like it was midnight in there. Perfect place to bring a hot date. The food was actually really good, even their fancy Mac and cheese was INCREDIBLE. Drinks are made beautifully all IG worthy to show. Dress beautifully. Cheers!

I’ve dined at this restaurant before for dinner, and I had a fantastic experience with both the food and service. However, my recent brunch visit was a significant letdown, marred by a series of unfortunate events that raised some serious red flags. First off, we were informed that both coffee and espresso martinis were unavailable due to a broken coffee machine. Ironically, shortly after, the table next to us, which was seated after my group, received their espresso martini. This inconsistency was frustrating. As for our drinks, one of our orders was completely forgotten, and we had to wait an excruciating 15-20 minutes just to have our food order taken. It felt like we had been overlooked entirely. To make matters worse, two groups seated after us were served their meals before we even got a chance to order. We attempted to start our brunch with an appetizer, which never arrived in time. Our server, who seemed to lack a basic understanding of hospitality, failed to check in with our table while we were left waiting for 20-30 minutes for our food. Not once did they ask if we needed drink refills or if everything was okay. Finally, without clearing the table or checking if we wanted anything else—like dessert or that elusive espresso martini—the server simply dropped off the check and walked away. This lack of attentiveness was disappointing and left a sour note on an otherwise promising outing. I really hope this restaurant can address these issues, as I would like to return for another dinner experience. But for now, I can’t recommend their brunch.
