About Mariscos La Chula -Downey - steak house in Downey, California
Customer Review Summary
Mariscos La Chula in Downey is a welcoming and cute restaurant with a great atmosphere. The staff is friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall dining experience. Many reviews praise the diverse menu, particularly the delicious molcajete and Baja fish tacos, and the affordable lunch specials at $9.99. However, there are mixed opinions about the food quality; one diner felt it was overpriced and received a disappointing ceviche without proper accompaniments. While the chips and salsa receive rave reviews, some dishes, like the beans, were criticized for lacking flavor. Overall, it’s considered a hidden gem with a fun vibe, especially during happy hour, but some patrons experienced issues with pricing and service.

Came down for lunch because I was in the mood for fish. Sat I the outdoor patio area which had lots of umbrellas to keep you out of the sun. The fish came out crispy but tender inside. It had a great lime flavor to it. Also rice ,beans and a small salad are included. This was their lunch special which is a great price $9.99 till 3 pm Monday thru Friday . Highly recommend this place for their food.

I love the atmosphere here. The servers are nice and friendly, service is great overall. I tried their mango tostada for breakfast 😊 which was delicious. I also had a mimosa flight 🔥. I went on a Saturday and they had a DJ playing. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

We went early during the weekend of Valentine's and enjoyed the food and the drinks! We will go back to try a different menu item!

Too expensive for the quality of the food. I waisted about $130 for a ceviche that had no flavor, no chips or tostadas for it. The Mariscos tower wasn’t also a big thing. The chicken fingers were ok and the enchiladas not good. Had my wrong order, no salt, no lemons and the space is too small. Had the ac blasting in my face and asked to turn it down and they didn’t. I was very disappointed over all. From the reviews and pictures I really expected for this place to be good.

They have THE BEST Baja fish tacos. The tortillas are thin and tasty, the cabbage is fresh with crema. I ordered a carne asada taco and it was ok, not bad. The fish tacos are definitely the ones to get!! I also love their chips and salsa. The salsa is roasted chile with so much flavor. Tuesday it had a little heat, but yesterday it wasn’t spicy at all but still delicious. So GOOD. I tried their beans on Tuesday but I didn’t like them. They had no flavor and almost tasted like the beans had sugar because they tasted sweet and weird.

Food and service was great. The bad thing was that the prices were slightly higher than was on the menu and u pay dollars more to use credit so take cash.
