The beef links are good with their sauce. The potato salad would be better if they'd eliminate the potato skin. I was saddened to hear that the owner passed away from Covid complications.

Used to be really good, but lately they'll give you old, dry food. Just look at the ribs in the picture. For $30 + they gotta do better. Ribs were old, green beans were old and the potatoe salad was runny. Unfortunate.

The best BBQ you can get anywhere. They have many choices and combinations you can get .there BBQ has Ben standing time since the 70s and is just as good then as now . Don't let me stand in the way you come on down and taste the BBQ that stood for all of time through everything and are still here for yourself .😄😄😄😄😄😄

Got off a flight and wanted BBQ. Since I already have a love for this place, I decided on E&J. Walked inside and one of the employees was just sitting behind the counter on his phone with the latex gloves still on. Ordered and got my food and I opened my plate and I see shaved brisket. Thin like deli meat. Like I'm paying $30+ for some shaved meat. The potato salad was garbage. Mac was garbage. I guess they repurposing the food for the next day. Very sad and it's a disgrace to the city of Oakland even the whole Bay Area. Terrible you guys. Very sad. Not going to this location again.

Terrible service. My husband and I had the worst experience. We lost our one year old son a few months ago, came home since we left the Bay years ago to get some comfort food. We get to the line and the guy just stands there and looks. I'm like "do we order here?" Long gone are the days of good customer service and good food. I won't be back. The food was not good at all. The owners and love in the food are sorely missed.

The food fell off hard. I ordered a three way meal. brisket was completely dry, ribs were tough, the links were ok. I also ordered potato salad and Mac and Cheese. Potato was ok but Mac cheese was stale. It’s been years since I last visited this place and was hoping to relive that great taste of bbq. I was definitely disappointed hoping they can figure it out and bring the spirit of bbq back to life. Also $40 for this meal was crazy. The service staff and atmosphere is always a vibe tho.

This was my first but not last time here. The food was soooooo good! The barbecue sauce was soooooo good, I could drink it! Their customer service was great! We received our food rather quickly! It tastes even better than it smells! I wish I could give them a 10 star rating! I'm glad I've been able to experience this tasty goodness!!!!

A friendly and unique legacy business with pretty decent barbecue from a real brick oven, quick service. On the whole I liked the ambiance, the food and value. They take credit and debit but I left the tip in cash. You do have to be careful to keep your to go clamshell package flat and level because it is really loaded up with sauce. Also if you’re driving and parking there be super careful about parking in the 4 handicap parking spaces in the area to the North side of E& J because there’s a local tow truck driver who will tow your vehicle inside of a minute if you don’t have handicap placards or plates . There is signage up there but you have to read all the way through what the signage explicitly says
