Customer Review Summary

Summit House Restaurant has received mixed reviews from diners. Positive points include outstanding French Onion soup, delicious crab cakes, and attentive service. The ambiance and views are also highlighted as romantic and enjoyable. The prime rib and sides, particularly during OC Restaurant Week, received praise for their quality and flavor. However, there were notable disappointments. Some diners experienced long wait times for food, poor seating arrangements near loud events, and less impressive dishes like the John Dory and chocolate profiteroles. Service comments from staff were deemed rude or off-putting by some guests, which soured their overall experience. Overall, while many had delightful experiences with excellent food and service, several diners expressed dissatisfaction with specific dishes and service interactions, suggesting a variable dining experience.

A classic restaurant my family use to come all the time for special occasions, but today’s birthday celebrations fell short. The good: - French Onion soup was from heaven. Cheesy, salty, rich. We finished it off with the given bread and it was so enjoyable. - Crab Cakes: a classic. Delicious, smaller than usual though. - Our server. He was very kind! - I think the plating improved! The… Unfortunate: - I read great things about the John Dory, but the first bite was so disappointing I had to regrettably return it. Flavor profile was odd (and I love lemon…) and the fish was very dry and bland. Mashed potatoes were AMAZING though! - Our seating. We were right next to a VERY loud wedding, couldn’t really hear each other speak. Our waiter was very understanding and had the manager request they quiet down. It was away from the main floor, by the bathrooms. - Food took almost two hours to come out? It took longer than I anticipated. - Something must have gone bad because my partner had diarrhea right after dessert. - I wasn’t the biggest fan of the chocolate profiteroles, but maybe it’s just personal taste. Both my partner and I have a sweet tooth, so it was a surprise we didn’t finish the gifted dessert. I befriended another lady in the restroom, and upon asking how her dinner was, she replied with a “it was… okay. Food wasn’t amazing, despite what I heard.” Her candid answer caught me off guard.

I had been waiting for OC Restaurant Week to take my husband here for a celebration. I made an early dinner reservation for Saturday and was seated within a few minutes. It was our first time dining here, and I was really excited. Perched atop a small hill, the restaurant offers views of the city. Once seated, our server walked us through both the regular menu and the special OC Restaurant Week prix-fixe menu, mentioning that the prix-fixe option was not shareable. When I asked for clarification, he responded, "It's already discounted, and if we see you sharing, we will pull silverware." The remark felt a bit off-putting, but we brushed it off and focused on enjoying our meal. We opted for the three-course prix-fixe meal, which included Lobster Bisque, Prime Rib (with a castle-cut upgrade), New York-style cheesecake, and a glass of wine. We also ordered an additional prime rib entrée. The food was delicious—especially the Lobster Bisque, which paired wonderfully with the warm bread. The prime rib was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and the horseradish was light and fluffy. Despite the odd comment from the server, the overall service was great, and we had a good time!

Came here with my wife during OC restaurant week for a celebration but it sure didn't end up feeling like that... Parking adjacent to the restaurant seemed to be valet only, otherwise you have to park slightly down the hill and walk for a few minutes, it's a bit dangerous since there's no pedestrian walkway. We were shortly seated after arriving for our 5:15 pm reservation. The bread, prime rib, lobster bisque, and cheesecake were great. The reason for the low rating is because I felt our waiter said something very rude to my wife. We wanted to order the OC restaurant week prime rib castle cut (comes with lobster bisque / cheesecake / cream corn / spinach as pictured)+ Mac and cheese to share between us two. That would've been the perfect amount of food and everything we wanted to try. However, when my wife asked if it was shareable our waiter said verbatim "no it's already discounted if we see you sharing we will pull silverware". Honestly this was such a rude comment it almost soured the entire evening. On their regular menu it states a $9.50 split entree fee, that's totally fine. They could've just enforced that or stated that for the OC restaurant week menu requires 1 entree per person. Don't say "pull silverware" in such a patronizing way... try this for the same outcome instead. "Apologies, but we do require one entree per person and the split entree you see on the main menu doesn't apply to the OC menu". Also, he said "regardless of what you order I will provide the same service". Uhhh, I didn't think you were not going to until you said this?? This isn't about the money, see the $100 charity donation photo made just for this. After we ordered, we think the waiter realized what he said and tried to correct it (hence why this isn't a 1 star review). Without us asking, he brought an extra spoon for me so we can both share the lobster bisque soup. If he didn't do that, we honestly wouldn't have asked after so much emphasis, chastise, and shaming of "no sharing". We end up ordering the OC menu prime rib set + reg menu prime rib. Lo and behold, it was way too much food. We took it to go even though it might just sit in the fridge for the next 2 days and possibly be thrown away (which I hate because it's wasting food) as we had a completely booked weekend with friends. Also, it took quite bit of time for our entrees to come out after we finished the soup. It seemed to be similar for tables around us. Hope your experience will be better than ours.

Absolutely delightful traditional roast beef restaurant in the style of the English Pub "Sunday Roast" with Yorkshire Pudding, creamed corn, and creamed spinach, the Summit House will not disappoint! The staff is incredibly accommodating and the food is fantastic! Truly enjoyed the bespoke cocktails and sumptuous desserts as well!

12/17/24 With a reservation the wait is long. The main dining hall seating was a bit tight. The server was nice and got our food to us in a timely matter. The food was below average. The prime rib was a bit tough and cream spinach had no taste as for the popover it was a waste of plate space. The cream corm was good until it cooled off. The filet mignon was butterflied and they still burned it. The potato’s were almost as bad as the popover. The soups were the only thing worth having. Desert was ok nothing special. Overall not close to a Fleming level of food for the same cost. Do yourself a favor and have prime rib and steak somewhere else.

We got to have our dream wedding at our favorite restaurant! Everything was just perfect and convenient with the well planned package which included everything except ring literally, clear communication which required no planner, reasonable budget which included alcohol and amazing food, and professional staffs who all made it all happened. Huge thanks to LeeAnn and her staffs. Thank you so much and we cannot wait to celebrate our anniversary at Summit House each year!

I recently dined at Summit House in Fullerton, and it was an outstanding experience. The food was absolutely excellent – every dish we tried was perfectly prepared and bursting with flavor. The prime rib, in particular, was a highlight, cooked to perfection and incredibly tender. The sides and desserts were equally impressive, making the meal feel special from start to finish. The service was top-notch as well. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the job evening. From the beautiful atmosphere to the delicious food and great service, Summit House is a must-visit!
